Manchester City Identifies Defensive Alternative in Case Jihy Deal Fails
Wednesday 07-01-2026
Manchester City has reshuffled its defensive priorities during the ongoing winter transfer window, following the injury to Gvardiol, setting up an alternative plan in anticipation of the failure to sign Marc Guehi, the Crystal Palace defender, according to the website "Fichajes."

According to the same source, Manchester City's interest in Guehi has clashed with a tough stance from Crystal Palace's management, prompting the English club to activate another option that enjoys internal consensus, which is to bring back the young defender Callum Doyle, currently playing for Wrexham and one of City's academy graduates.

The site pointed out that Doyle, 22 years old, has delivered strong performances in the Championship, attracting attention with his ability to carry the ball out, his good game reading, and his adaptation to playing with an advanced defensive line, which aligns with coach Pep Guardiola's philosophy.

The report explained that Manchester City, which previously sold the player for a limited amount, is now prepared to make a large financial offer that could reach about £30 million to bring him back, given that he is under contract with Wrexham until June 2029, giving his current club clear negotiating power.

The report confirmed that Manchester City's management sees the Callum Doyle option as a solution that combines immediate readiness with familiarity with the club's environment, while City continues to evaluate the best ways to strengthen its defense during the winter transfer period without compromising the team's identity or future plans.
