Benfica Nears Loan Deal for Lorenzo Lucca from Napoli
Wednesday 07-01-2026
Benfica continues to show interest in Italian striker Lorenzo Lucca, a Napoli player, with the possibility of signing him on loan for the remainder of the 2025/2026 season. This potential deal comes after Lucca struggled to adapt at Napoli since his move from Udinese in July 2025, in a loan deal worth 9 million euros with a mandatory purchase clause at the end of the season for an additional 26 million euros, plus 5 million euros in variables.

The Italian striker has not made a significant impact at Napoli, scoring only two goals in 20 official matches. The club has publicly warned the player several times that he needs to improve his performance to secure more playing time. The club’s sporting director confirmed that the club will explore various options for him during the winter transfer window, taking into account the recovery of his teammate Romelu Lukaku from injury.

According to reports from Sky Sports Italy, new talks have taken place between Benfica and Napoli to discuss a six-month loan deal, which will not affect the mandatory purchase clause from Udinese, which is activated once Napoli earns a point in the Italian league during 2026.

It is worth noting that Lucca has previous experience playing outside Italy, having represented Dutch club Ajax during the 2022/2023 season, giving him prior experience adapting to European leagues outside his home country. This background increases his chances of success with Benfica in the Portuguese league.
