Morocco Closest to Hosting the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup
Monday 05-01-2026
A year ago, FIFA opened an office in Rabat aimed at organizing and coordinating several matters related to the 2030 World Cup, which Morocco will host alongside Spain and Portugal.

This step could pave the way for hosting another major global event on Moroccan soil just one year earlier, the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup.

According to Hespress Agency, the tournament that brings together the best clubs in the world, which will seek a new champion to succeed the current titleholder Chelsea, is 99% likely to be held in Morocco. Despite strong interest from countries such as the United States, Brazil, and Qatar in hosting the event, FIFA views organizing the tournament in Morocco very positively, considering it a preparatory stage for the launch of the Club World Cup the following year.

The agency stated through its platforms: "Morocco has become the leading candidate to host the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup, according to strong information circulating within continental and international football circles, confirming its clear advantage over other competing bids. A well-informed source closely following the inner workings of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation and the files of the African and International Federations confirmed that Morocco's chances of hosting the 2029 edition are about 99%, noting that the final decision remains pending the official announcement from FIFA."

The same sources added that the general trend within decision-making circles has become clear, as FIFA views the organization of the 2029 Club World Cup as an advanced test of Morocco's infrastructure and organizational capabilities, whether in terms of stadiums, logistical aspects, or the accumulated experience in managing major global tournaments.

Traditionally, the Confederations Cup was held in the year preceding the World Cup, on the same host country's soil, serving as a test run for organizational preparations before the bigger event.

In 2025, the new FIFA Club World Cup format was introduced, with the first edition held in the United States, one of the World Cup host countries. Accordingly, FIFA may follow the same approach with Morocco hosting the 2029 edition, as a lead-up to the 2030 World Cup. Meanwhile, despite Spain having the necessary capabilities to organize the tournament, it will remain out of the running to host this edition.
