Regragui: A Strong Start for Morocco with Victory over Comoros in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations
Sunday 21-12-2025
Walid Regragui, coach of the Moroccan national team, confirmed that his team started their journey in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations finals successfully, after winning 2-0 against Comoros in the opening match held at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat. He emphasized that opening matches in continental competitions always carry a special difficulty.

In media statements, Regragui explained that "entering the competition is always challenging," adding that the team dominated the first half despite not capitalizing on all opportunities due to limited movement in the operational areas, while maintaining a good possession rate.

The coach of the "Atlas Lions" pointed out that the technical staff was aware of the need to correct certain details during the second half, explaining: "We knew that with the substitutions and the intensity we brought, opportunities would arise, and that is exactly what happened."

Regragui said: "We managed to score the two goals, and after that, we controlled the match better," considering that the players' response was positive and reflected the team's character that the coaching staff aims to establish.

The national coach concluded his speech by emphasizing the importance of this victory from a moral standpoint, saying: "This is a good win and a strong start, and it was important to secure the victory in front of our fans to enter the competition with confidence."

With this victory, the Moroccan national team secured their first three points in the group stage, while the Comoros team remained without any points. The "Atlas Lions" are preparing to face the Mali national team in the second round on Friday, December 26, at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat.
