Conte: We Must Continue This Approach, and We Have Achieved What We Aspire To
Napoli's coach Antonio Conte appeared in a press statement after qualifying for the Italian Super Cup final by defeating their rivals Milan with a 2-0 victory.
The coach said, "I realize that repeating this topic may seem tedious, but when you play a match every three days with limited options available, it's natural for some setbacks to occur. This happened last week and may happen again in the future."
He added: "We wanted to deliver a strong performance against a big team with talented players. Our style of play relies on high energy and requires great effort; we don’t just settle for defending and relying solely on counterattacks. I am happy that the players showed their genuine desire to compete for this title."
He emphasized: "We are generally in good physical condition, but the many matches drain the energy of any team. We paid the price for the recent victories, as fatigue showed against Benfica and in the second half against Udinese, but today we moved as one unit excellently."
Amal: "When we play with team spirit, regardless of the names involved, we are able to compete. We must continue with this approach. The injured players are still out of the picture, but the new players have become more integrated compared to the beginning of the season. I knew the season would be tough, but I did not expect such a large number of injuries."
Regarding Lukaku's return and the possibility of him playing alongside Højlund: "First, we need to get Lukaku back to full fitness. He is a very important player for us and has a lot of experience, and having him on the bench is positive in itself. I hope we have many upcoming matches so that both of them get their opportunities."
He explained, "We are doing what we need to do right now. Some players are adapting to different roles, and I have received an excellent response from everyone."
He concluded: "We only aspired to reach the final in order to have a chance to win the title. We know that both potential opponents (Bologna or Inter) are very strong."
