French star Kylian Mbappe became just one goal away from equaling the historic record held by Portuguese legend Cristiano Ronaldo as the highest goal scorer in a single calendar year in the history of the Royal Club.

Mbappe played a decisive role in leading Real Madrid to qualify for the round of 16 in the Copa del Rey after a 3-2 victory over Talavera, scoring two goals and being the standout player of the match.

Mbappe raised his tally to 58 goals during 2025, becoming just one goal short of equaling Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored 59 goals in 2013.

The French star is now close to breaking the record outright, as Real Madrid has one match left before the end of the year, against Sevilla on December 20th, giving him a golden opportunity to surpass Ronaldo's achievement and set a new historic record in his name.
