Tunisia in the Third Pot for the 2026 World Cup Draw
The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) announced today, Tuesday, the rankings of the teams for the 2026 World Cup draw, which will take place on December 5th in Washington, with the Tunisian national team placed in the third pot.
The Tunisian national team joins the ranks of Egypt, Algeria, Scotland, Norway, Paraguay, Ivory Coast, South Africa, Panama, Uzbekistan, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia, making it likely that they could be drawn into a strong group alongside two major teams from the first and second seedings during the draw.
The next edition of the World Cup will feature 48 teams for the first time in history, divided into 12 groups. Forty-two teams will qualify directly, while the remaining six spots will be decided through the global playoffs scheduled for next March.
Each group includes four teams: one from each ranking, with the teams that qualify through the global playoff automatically placed in the fourth ranking.
According to FIFA regulations, no group can include more than one team from the same continent, except for Europe, where two European teams are allowed in the same group. FIFA has also decided to place the two best teams on opposite sides of the bracket to ensure they do not meet before the final.
With this ranking, the Tunisian national team faces significant challenges, but it still has a good chance of reaching the knockout stage, especially given its accumulated experience in global and continental tournaments and its technical stability in recent years.
