Algeria in the Third Pot for the 2026 World Cup Draw

Tuesday 25-11-2025
Today, Tuesday, the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) placed the Algerian national team in the third pot for the 2026 World Cup draw, scheduled for December 5 in Washington.

"Al-Khadar" joined the national teams of Egypt, Scotland, Tunisia, Norway, Paraguay, Ivory Coast, South Africa, Panama, Uzbekistan, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia, making it likely that Algeria could be drawn against two powerhouses from the first and second seedings, as well as potentially facing a second European team according to FIFA regulations.

The 2026 World Cup finals are set to feature 48 teams, divided into 12 groups. Forty-two teams will qualify directly, while six additional spots will be decided through the global playoffs next March. Each group will consist of four teams, one from each seeding pot, with teams that qualify through the global playoffs automatically placed in the fourth pot.

No group is allowed to include more than one team from the same continent, except for Europe, where two groups can each contain more than one European team. FIFA has also decided to place the two best-ranked teams, based on rankings and results, on opposite sides of the bracket to ensure they do not face each other before the final match.
