Tottenham Coach Explains Heavy Defeat to Arsenal
Tottenham coach Thomas Frank appeared in a press statement after the 4-1 loss to Arsenal in the twelfth round of the English Premier League.
The coach said: "I think it is very painful. I will not avoid this; it was a completely bad match, contrary to everything we aimed for when we came here. We can only apologize to the fans for the performance. I think that no matter how much both teams wanted to play with the ball, they benefited more than us, and we couldn't get the result. When the team relied on long balls, we did not win enough duels, which is evident in our second and third goals, where one player bypassed two or three of our players. It was a bad match and we lost."
He added: "I saw a lot of character and fight in the team, but we did not win enough duels. You can call this anything, but the truth is we did not win enough."
Regarding the playing style: "I tried to play a 5-4-1 formation, and I will always take responsibility as it was my choice, then we changed it in the second half. My view is that regardless of the formation, we did not have enough intensity or sharpness at critical moments, and it is very difficult to win a football match this way."
About the goals: "I want to study the goals in more detail. I will watch the full match tonight, and it will be a difficult watch. We were not aggressive and did not advance when we could, and they took advantage of this and played around us."
On the lack of creativity: "This is an ongoing issue and we are working hard to improve it. It did not look good today nor against Chelsea. We need to continue working on it."
He concluded by saying: "There is a lot to improve in this match. We are in the fourth month of the project and they are further along in their journey as a team, and this was very clear today. Of course, there will be noise; we played against our biggest rivals and lost heavily. But we ignore the noise and focus. I know this team is very competitive, and we showed that against Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain. Of course, it looks bad today, and the performance was not enough."
