Tuesday 18-11-2025
The Referees Committee and the Arbitration Department of the Saudi Football Federation confirmed that the penalty awarded to Al-Nassr against NEOM in their recent match was incorrect, according to exclusive sources from Al-Riyadiyah.

A referees' gathering in Dammam, concluding on Tuesday, featured a review of various cases from previous matches to clarify observations about refereeing decisions and provide detailed explanations of decisions that impacted the games.

Al-Nassr recorded a 3-1 victory over Neom on November 8th in the eighth round of the Roshn Saudi League. The second goal was scored by the Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo from a penalty kick awarded by referee Abdullah Al-Shahri, a decision that was disputed by both the committee and the review panel.

As for the match between Al-Nassr and Al-Fayha in the seventh round, which ended 2-1, no refereeing incidents from it were shown during the review session. Ronaldo scored the team's second goal from a penalty in stoppage time, and the committee approved all other referees' decisions.

The gathering included theoretical lectures on the rules of the game and practical training on the applications of VAR technology, attended by 49 referees, including 25 main referees and 24 assistants, as well as three female referees who participate in officiating matches in the Women's Premier League.

This gathering came as part of ongoing efforts to improve the performance of Saudi referees, review decisions from previous matches to ensure their compliance with the rules, and enhance the accuracy of officiating in local tournaments.
