Drew Tops the List of Barcelona Academy Players with the Most Appearances Under Flick
The Spanish newspaper 'Mundo Deportivo' reported that young midfielder Drew is the most participating player from Barcelona's new academy members with the first team this season under the management of German coach Hans Flick, having received real opportunities to play compared to his fellow academy players who were called up to the squad.
The newspaper clarified that Flick, in his second season with Barcelona, has given opportunities to several academy players, with five of them already participating in official matches, while the others have only been on the bench or in the squads without any appearances.
Mundo Deportivo pointed out that Drew has been involved with the first team since the beginning of the season and remained with the group despite suffering an injury that kept him out for three matches, then started against Real Sociedad and Olympiacos, along with minutes played against Elche, making him the most participating player from the academy this year.
The newspaper also explained that full-back Jofri Turents played only 23 minutes against Mallorca before returning to the reserve team, while forward Toni Fernandez played one half against Girona, whereas Phil Fernandez, Xavi Espart, and Juan Hernandez were limited to being on the lists without any playing minutes.
The newspaper noted that Barcelona Athletic goalkeeper Diego Cushing and Eder Alir have been included in several first team lists this season to compensate for the injuries of Ter Stegen and Juan Garcia, reflecting Flick's increasing reliance on academy support amid the pressure of matches.
