Enrique: I said it would be a difficult match and no one believed me
The match between Paris Saint-Germain and Lorient in the French league on Wednesday evening witnessed another setback for the Parisian team after drawing 1-1, in a match that saw the injury of player Désiré Doué ahead of the anticipated clash with Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
Spanish coach Luis Enrique expressed his dissatisfaction with his team's performance, confirming that his players lacked rhythm and focus in the first half.
Enrique said: "Especially in the first half, we didn't create any chances, we didn't win any individual duels, and we struggled against Lorient's compact defense. It's unfortunate that we scored a goal and then conceded the equalizer immediately. In the second half, the performance improved a bit, but it was difficult because we need the points."
The Spanish coach spoke about the injury of Désiré Doué, saying: "It's always unfortunate when injuries happen, and this injury is somewhat strange. I don't know his condition yet, and I hope it's not serious."
He added: "For now, I prefer to consider all players available, and we have to wait to know the details of Doué's injury."
Regarding the player's tears as he left the field, Enrique said: "When you are a professional player, you realize that the accumulation of matches with the club and the national team can lead to injuries; this is part of a player's career."
On the team's overall performance, he clarified: "It was a difficult match for everyone. I feel frustrated because I couldn't help my team as I should. The players have the experience and quality, but the result was not what we wanted."
Enrique continued, affirming his expectation of a difficult match: "I said yesterday it would be a complicated match, but no one believed me. If you don't start the match with good rhythm, you give your opponent extra motivation, and when you think you have time to change things and you don't, it becomes very difficult."
The Paris Saint-Germain coach concluded his remarks by saying: "Today we did not deserve to win. I congratulate Lorient because they defended excellently. This is football; you have to stay focused for 90 minutes to win. I said yesterday that the match would be difficult, but no one believed me."
