Argentinian Referee Dario Herrera to Officiate the Clasico Between Al-Ittihad and Al-Hilal
The Argentine referee Dario Herrera will officiate the highly anticipated Clasico match between Al-Ittihad and Al-Hilal, scheduled to take place on Friday evening as part of the sixth round of the Saudi Roshan League, according to an announcement by the Saudi Football Federation on its official account on the 'X' platform.
Herrera, born in 1985 in the town of Andankoy in the Neuquén province of Argentina, has extensive experience in officiating, making him one of the most prominent referees in South America in recent years.
He began his refereeing career in 2013 and, just two years later, obtained the international badge from FIFA, joining the list of internationally accredited referees to officiate major continental and international tournaments.
Throughout his career, which includes more than 520 matches, Herrera has issued 2,581 yellow cards and 97 red cards, reflecting his strict personality on the field and his ability to handle major matches with firmness and balance.
Before entering the field of officiating, Herrera worked as a physical education teacher, which gave him a deep understanding of the physical and psychological aspects of players, contributing to his distinction on the field and his confident control over the pace of crucial matches.
The Argentine referee has participated in managing many prestigious tournaments such as the Copa Libertadores, Copa Sudamericana, and World Cup qualifiers, and has officiated fiery encounters, most notably the 'Superclásico' between Boca Juniors and River Plate, and the match between Uruguay and Brazil in the 2024 Copa América.
On the local level, Herrera has previously officiated in Saudi stadiums five times, including four matches in the Roshan League, in addition to managing the King’s Cup final for the 2023-2024 season between Al-Hilal and Al-Nassr in Jeddah, which was decided by penalties in favor of the capital's blue team.
