Argentinian Diego Simeone, coach of Atletico Madrid, spoke after the heavy loss against Arsenal (4-0) at the Emirates Stadium, in the third round of the Champions League group stage.

He began his talk about the reasons for the loss: "At first, we were good until the first goal, but after that, we could have defended better. Arsenal scores a lot from set pieces, and this shows how important they are in such tournaments, where small details can change the course of the match. We weren't bad, but we made clear mistakes, not bad luck. In just twenty minutes, they took advantage of every opportunity and scored from them."

He added: "We also had chances, like Julian's shot that hit the crossbar, but the differences in decisiveness and details were what decided the match."

Regarding his choice of Sorloth as a starter: "He did what we asked of him, tried to close down Zubimendi and move into spaces, but he didn't find enough support from the team. It wasn't a defensive issue on set pieces, but we sought strength in individual duels and presence in the penalty area."

On the collapse in ten minutes: "These are individual mistakes that affected the group, like not committing a tactical foul at the right time or weakness in challenges, and these small things make the difference. How to deal with these issues? It's not easy, as some things are instinctive. We try to work collectively to cover individual mistakes, but some details depend on personality on the field."

About the comparison with the loss to Benfica last year: "There is no relation between the two matches. Against Benfica, we weren't present offensively, but today we competed until the 60th minute. Arsenal is better now, we have to accept that and learn from it."
