Walid Regragui, coach of the Moroccan national football team, confirmed that the technical staff is working on scheduling strong friendly matches in the upcoming phase, as part of the preparations for the "Atlas Lions" participation in the 2026 World Cup.

Regragui explained, during the press conference that followed Morocco's victory over Congo by a goal to nil in the final round of the qualifiers, that the primary goal is to face the Argentine national team, the current world champion.

He said: "We are in contact with the Argentine federation to organize a friendly match, but it is not easy, and it may not ultimately happen."

The national coach added that several African teams have expressed their desire to face Morocco in a friendly, while also indicating that playing against an Asian team remains an option as well.

He continued: "We are open to facing teams from different continents because the diversity of opponents develops the players' performance and gives them experience in dealing with various playing styles."

Regragui concluded his remarks by emphasizing that the ambition is to face top-tier national teams globally, in order to prepare the squad in the best possible way, stressing that scheduling these friendly matches is subject to organizational and technical considerations and is not solely in the hands of the Moroccan national team.
