Betkovic Turns the Page Against Uganda and Gives Opportunity to New Faces
Tuesday 14-10-2025
Coach Vladimir Petkovic, the head coach of the Algerian national team, revealed the starting lineup that will face the Uganda national team today, Tuesday, at the Hussein Ait Ahmed Stadium in Tizi Ouzou, as part of the tenth and final round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Although the match is formal for the "Greens" after securing qualification for the World Cup in advance, Petkovic decided to use it to make several changes to his lineup, with a total of four complete changes compared to the previous match against Somalia, which ended with Algeria winning by three clean goals.

The starting lineup saw for the first time the participation of goalkeeper Luka Zidane, who replaces Alexis Guendouz in goal, and Ibrahim Maaza, the Bayer Leverkusen star, returned to the forefront, having previously only participated as a starter in a friendly against Rwanda last June.

The changes also included Adam Zarqan instead of Nabil Bentaleb, and Amin Guiri instead of Baghdad Bounedjah, who is absent due to injury.

Here is the starting lineup of the Algerian national team against Uganda:

Goalkeeper: Luka Zidane
Defense: Belghali – Hegem – Mandi – Ben Sabaini
Midfield: Zarqan – Boudaoui – Maaza
Attack: Guiri – Mahrez – Amoura

This match is an ideal opportunity for the coaching staff to test new names and assess the readiness of the players ahead of upcoming commitments, most notably the Africa Cup of Nations finals in Morocco 2025.
