Antonio Cazorla Approaches to Lead Al-Karma
Tuesday 14-10-2025
The administrative body of Al-Karma Club has reached a formal agreement with Spanish coach Antonio Cazorla to take over the leadership of the first football team, succeeding Iraqi coach Ahmed Khalaf, whose contract was terminated by mutual consent. This step aims to reorganize the team's structure and revive the spirit among the players in the Iraqi Premier League.

The Spanish coach recently arrived in Iraq, and the official contract is expected to be signed in the coming hours, in addition to revealing the assistant coaching staff that will accompany him during this new mission. Cazorla previously led Al-Orouba team in the Roshan Saudi League, but his tenure was not successful, as the team faced relegation to the lower division, which poses a significant challenge for the Spanish coach in his new role with Al-Karma.

Al-Karma currently occupies the ninth position with 7 points, after losing to their host team Erbil 1-2 in the fourth round of the Iraqi Premier League, which prompted the administration to make the decision for a change in order to correct the team's course before it's too late. This move comes as the administration seeks to return Al-Karma to compete for the top positions after a modest start to the season.

Spanish coach Antonio Cazorla aims to take advantage of the great potential that the team possesses, especially with a group of distinguished players, including three players from the Jordan national team who qualified for the 2026 World Cup, and one player from the Oman national team, in addition to a record deal in terms of financial value with the star of the Iraqi national team and its top scorer Ayman Hussein, who represents a key pillar in the team's attack.

Through this contract, Al-Karma's administration aims to achieve several objectives, the most important of which are improving results in the league, restoring technical and tactical discipline among the players, as well as benefiting from Cazorla's extensive experience in the Saudi league, which could give the team an advantage over its competitors in the upcoming matches. The Spanish coach relies on raising the collective and individual level of the players and utilizing their technical expertise to achieve victories, especially in light of the fierce competition for the Iraqi Premier League title this season.
