Death of Miguel Angel Russo, Boca Juniors Coach, After Battle with Illness
The Argentine club Boca Juniors announced the death of its head coach Miguel Angel Russo at the age of 69, after a long battle with cancer.
The club released an official statement through its social media accounts, stating: "Boca Juniors announces, with great sadness, the death of Miguel Angel Russo. He left an indelible mark on our institution and will always remain an example of joy, warmth, and dedication. We stand with his family and loved ones during this difficult time. Goodbye, dear Miguel."
Russo was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2017 and signed a new contract in June to coach Boca for the third time in his career, after previous stints in 2007 and from 2020 to 2021.
The late coach took a leave at the end of last month due to a decline in his health, and his last match in charge of Boca Juniors was on September 21 against Central Córdoba at La Bombonera, before his assistants Claudio Ubeda and Jofinal Rodriguez took over.
It is worth mentioning that Miguel Angel Russo's coaching career spanned over 10 clubs in Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Spain, and Colombia.
