The Egyptian team turned around a one-goal deficit into a valuable victory in the third round of Group A, securing their first three points in the tournament after two losses to Japan and New Zealand, both by a score of 2/0.

Despite the victory, the Egyptian team lost the chance for direct qualification to the Round of 16 after tying with Chile and New Zealand with 3 points each.

The Egyptian and Chilean teams were equal in all other criteria, whether goal difference or the number of goals scored, leading to the second place being determined by the fair play criterion.
