Manaf Younis Raises Ambitions Ahead of Al-Gharafa Match
Iraqi police team defender Manaf Younis has intensified the challenge ahead of the anticipated match against Qatari Al-Gharafa, which is part of the second round of the 2025-2026 AFC Champions League, to be held on Monday evening at Khalifa International Stadium in the Qatari capital, Doha.
Younis said in the press conference held before the match:
He stated: "The team is fully prepared for this important match, and we will adhere to implementing all the duties set by the coaching staff on the pitch, as coach Moamen Soliman monitors every small detail concerning the players, which gives us the confidence to face any opponent."
He added: "The police have participated in several strong competitions, whether in the local league or international tournaments, and thanks to teamwork, we have been able to prove our capabilities. We hope to return from Doha with all the points, as this will provide a significant morale boost for us in the tournament journey."
He continued: "The police fans are the true support for the team every season, and we aspire to make them happy with a positive result. My focus is currently entirely on the club, and after the Asian championship, my goal will be to serve the national team to achieve good results and strive for reaching the World Cup."
He added: "Our presence in Qatar is not just for a ceremonial participation, but we came for real competition, as we are the Iraqi league champions for four consecutive seasons, and we will be a strong rival to any team we face. We also want to correct our image on the external level and prove that we are capable of going far this season."
It is worth mentioning that the technical conference for the match was held a few hours ago, where it was decided that the police team would play in a complete green kit, while Al-Gharafa will play in yellow and blue.
The Green Lyre delegation arrived in Doha on Saturday evening and held their first training session in preparation for the match, with three players absent from the squad due to injury and unfitness.
