Thomas Frank: A Historic Moment for Me in the Champions League, and We Will Fight to Win
Monday 15-09-2025
The Danish coach Thomas Frank, the head coach of Tottenham Hotspur, held a press conference today, Monday, at the club's headquarters, on the eve of the team's match against Spanish side Villarreal in the first round of the group stage of the UEFA Champions League, which will take place on Tuesday evening at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Frank said: "It’s a big moment, and I’m very excited. I know it will be special when the Champions League music starts. So far, we are in preparations, things seem relatively normal, but tomorrow when we step onto the pitch, it will be a special moment."

He continued: "I have a fantastic team, and our goal is to progress as far as possible. Anyone entering a tournament thinks about winning it. We are focusing on the Villarreal match now, which is a strong and organized team, and I have been very impressed with their style of play."

He added: "I respect Marcelino a lot; he has done a great job. The team is well organized and loves to control the ball. It will be a tough match and an exciting challenge."

Regarding the new Champions League format, he said: "I am open to renewal and change. I followed the system from the outside last season, and now I will experience it. It seems interesting, and in the end, it’s a Champions League match, and we will give everything we have to win."

On the number of points required for qualification, he said: "I’m not thinking about that right now; my focus is solely on winning against Villarreal, and then we think about the Brighton match, one game at a time."

About his journey from Brentford to Tottenham, he confirmed: "A fantastic opportunity for me. We moved from playing at Griffin Park in Brentford to one of the best stadiums in the world, perhaps the best. The European atmosphere will be amazing, and I look forward to hearing the Champions League anthem, then we start working."

Regarding his memories of the Champions League, he said: "I remember the 1992 final between Barcelona and Sampdoria when Koeman scored from a free kick, and there are unforgettable matches like the Manchester United final against Bayern in 1999 and the famous Liverpool vs. Milan match."

On the status of Dominic Solanke and Kolo Muani, he pointed out: "Solanke is progressing but is not ready to participate tomorrow; as for Kolo Muani, he is ready and can play 90 minutes if necessary, but he still needs to reach the required level of sharpness. He will be with us tomorrow, and that’s the most important thing."

He concluded his remarks by saying: "We have clear principles in defense and attack; we usually press high, but we make slight adjustments based on the opponent. We try to convey ideas to the players through videos and 11 vs. 11 training. I believe in the importance of fine details more than the length of sessions, and the players here are exceptional in making decisions on the pitch."
