Renewal of Sharhili's Contract Sparks Controversy Within the Union
Saturday 13-09-2025
The decision by Al-Ittihad Club management to extend the contract of defender Ahmed Sharhili has ignited a wave of controversy, as journalist Majid Hood described the move as unjustified given the player's long absence from participation due to injury.

Hood questioned in his statements: "How can we renew a player who has not appeared on the field since his injury?" considering that the decision raises questions about the current contracting policy of the club.

Sharhili suffered a torn ACL during a match against Al-Fateh in September 2023 in the Saudi league, and since then he has been unable to return to official matches with the team.

Despite a comprehensive plan being prepared to rehabilitate him at the start of the current season, a new setback has delayed his return, leaving Al-Ittihad without benefiting from his defensive services thus far.

Observers believe that keeping a player who is not physically fit could impose an additional burden on the defense line, especially given the club's need for elements capable of providing immediate contributions.

Some believe that Sharhili's continued absence may increase pressure on the coaching staff, which is seeking solutions to strengthen the backline and ensure stability in defensive performance in the upcoming phase.
