Neom announced that it has reached a preliminary agreement with Spanish club Almeria for the transfer of Portuguese goalkeeper Luis Maquismano to the team for four seasons, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano via the 'X' platform.

Maquismano is considered one of the best goalkeepers in Spain, having started his career with Sporting Lisbon, then moved to Granada, and later to Lazio in Italy, before Almeria became his last professional stop. He is 26 years old and stands 190 cm tall.

Maquismano has extensive experience with the Portuguese national team at all age levels, which gives him a great ability to protect the goal in the Saudi Pro League, enhancing Neom's defensive options before the end of the season.

This signing comes after the injury of Polish goalkeeper Marcin Polka, who suffered an injury to his cruciate ligament during his last training session on Thursday. Polka was Neom's starting goalkeeper in the match against Al-Ahli in the league.

The Portuguese goalkeeper was the subject of interest from other clubs this summer, including Spanish club Rayo Vallecano and Saudi club Al-Shabab, based on a request from Spanish coach Emmanuel Algasuel, before Neom secured the deal in its favor.

Neom is expected to officially announce Maquismano's arrival in the coming days, making him a strong addition to the team and replacing the injured goalkeeper, enhancing competitiveness in the goalkeeper position for the Saudi team.
