Allegri: I Don't Yet Know How I Will Utilize Nkunku, and This Is What We Showed
Massimiliano Allegri, the coach of Milan, appeared in press statements after his team's important away victory against Lecce with a score of (2-0) in the second round of the Italian league.
Milan struggled at first after two goals were disallowed, the first from Matteo Gabbia's header due to a foul, and the second from Santiago Gimenez for offside, before Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Christian Pulisic secured the win for the Rossoneri.
Allegri stated in his remarks to Sky Sport Italia: "It was important for us to achieve the victory, playing against Lecce is always difficult. We gave them three or four dangerous chances and we should have defended better. These are areas we need to keep working on."
He added: "Winning is necessary to progress in the standings, and also to compensate for the loss against Cremonese in the first round, which we paid dearly for. We do not win just because we wear the Milan shirt, but we must prove ourselves on the pitch."
Regarding the signing of Nkunku: "I don't yet know how I will utilize Nkunku, but he certainly has a lot of quality. The most important thing is to find balance within the team."
On changing the player's formation from (3-5-2) which seemed closer to (3-6-1) with the return of Alexis Saelemaekers to support Pervis Estupiñán defensively, he said: "I preferred to have an additional player in midfield instead of a clear attacking duo. This gives us greater balance and better coverage of the pitch. We need to regain confidence, and that only happens by keeping our goal clean."
The coach refused to elaborate on the situation of Santiago Gimenez and Younes Moussa, who may leave the team before the transfer market closes, as reports have confirmed that Atalanta has an agreement to sign Moussa, while Gimenez may be involved in a swap deal with Roma.
Allegri commented: "I did not address the issue of Gimenez or Moussa, as we were facing an important match. I do not want to know anything about the market at such moments. The management will make its decisions in the interest of Milan."
The coach concluded: "The team showed humility, patience, and respect for the opponent today. We must build on this performance to become more competitive in the upcoming period."
