Jesus After Victory Over Al-Ittihad: Ronaldo is the Pride of Portugal and Mane's Absence is Impactful but We Will Compensate
Tuesday 19-08-2025
Portuguese coach Jorge Jesus expressed his great happiness at overcoming the challenge of Al-Ittihad and qualifying for the Saudi Super Cup final, pointing out that the work that has lasted only 25 days has begun to bear fruit quickly.

Jesus said at the press conference after the match: "This is our first official match, yet we managed to win convincingly. We played seventy minutes short after Sadio Mane's expulsion, but the team showed great organization and scored two goals. I confirm that the third goal was valid, but the referee disallowed it."

The Portuguese coach added that he was surprised by the impressive performance the players delivered against the league and cup champions, explaining that he faced Al-Ittihad previously in 14 matches, and this victory represents a new addition against a strong opponent who has always been a tough rival.

Jesus pointed out that the conditions of the match were challenging due to high humidity and physical pressure, but he considered the victory deserved, noting that Al-Ittihad created only one real opportunity, while his team controlled the course of the match despite the numerical disadvantage.

Regarding Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo, he said: "Ronaldo is a professional and elegant player on the field, and he is undoubtedly the best in the world. I feel proud to be Portuguese, and his presence in Al-Nassr gives the team a huge boost towards titles. More than 80% of the fans came for him."

As for Sadio Mane's absence from the final, Jesus described it as a significant blow, but he emphasized his confidence in the remaining players' ability to compensate for his absence, confirming that the Senegalese star made a mistake with his intervention and could have avoided the expulsion with his vast experience.

Regarding transfers, Jesus clarified that the team will not sign a new foreign player in the pivot position, and if that happens, the option will be limited to a Saudi player, praising the abilities of duo Abdullah Al-Khaibari and Ali Al-Hassan.

He concluded his remarks by saying: "I am still at the beginning of my work with Al-Nassr, I have spent only 25 days, and I am continuously working to correct mistakes with the players off the field. The team needs some additions, but we are on the right track."
