Yaisle: Voting Granted Mendy the Captaincy at Al Ahly
Monday 18-08-2025
Matthias Yaisle, the coach of Al Ahly, revealed the truth about his disagreement with Franck Kessie before the match against Al Qadisiyah in the Saudi Super Cup, scheduled for Wednesday.

Al Ahly is preparing to face Al Qadisiyah in the semi-finals of the Saudi Super Cup, which will be hosted in Hong Kong from August 19 to 23.

Yaisle said in the pre-match press conference, when asked about transferring the captaincy to Senegalese Edouard Mendy despite Kessie's presence in the recent friendly in Riyadh: "There is absolutely no problem."

He continued: "After Firmino's departure, we decided to let the players vote, presenting a number of options like Mendy, Kessie, Majrashi, and Ibanez, and the players saw that the Senegalese goalkeeper is the ideal leader for the group."

He added about the upcoming match: "Al Qadisiyah is a very good team, and we have confidence to face this challenge. We have prepared well and I am optimistic before the start of the new season."

He pointed out: "The match was not planned, but as long as we received an invitation to be ambassadors of the nation, the goal is to achieve the championship."

Yaisle added: "The goal is clear; we take advantage of every opportunity to achieve successes. We had the chance to win the Asian Elite Championship, and now we want to achieve a new title."

He continued: "I am excited to play here and I am not worried about the weather. After achieving the continental achievement, all eyes will be on us, and the goal now is to win the Saudi Super Cup."

When asked about the reason behind the departure of the three foreign players, Gabriel Vega, Firmino, and Maximan, he said: "I do not wish to delve into the transfer market; the period is still open and our focus is solely on facing Al Qadisiyah and the Saudi Super Cup."
