La Liga Association Approves New Refereeing Technology
Monday 28-07-2025
Spanish press reports indicate that the Spanish League Association has officially approved the implementation of the new video technology "FVS" starting from the next season, as a low-cost alternative to the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).

According to the Spanish newspaper "COPE", the new technology aims to enhance the role of coaches in refereeing decisions by granting them the right to request a review of video footage during matches.

The mechanism for using the FVS technology is based on the following conditions:

Each coach is entitled to request a review of up to two video clips during the match.

If the objection is proven valid, the coach retains the total number of their requests.

The referee reviews the clip immediately after receiving the coach's request.

This step is an attempt by the La Liga Association to involve technical teams in the decision-making process of refereeing, while reducing complete reliance on the traditional Video Assistant Referee.
