Newcastle Targets Signing Wissa After Pulling Out of Ekitike Deal
Thursday 17-07-2025
Newcastle United is working to explore the possibility of signing Brentford striker Yoane Wissa during the current summer transfer window, after easing its interest in signing Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt.

According to The Athletic, Newcastle has not yet begun its official communications with Brentford, but this is expected to happen soon, along with the need to agree with the Congolese international on the terms of his personal contract.

Nottingham Forest had previously made an offer to sign Wissa, which was rejected by Brentford's management, who are tied to the player with a contract that ends in June 2026, with an option to extend for another year.

Wissa shone last season, scoring 19 goals in 35 matches, becoming the top scorer in the Premier League without counting penalties.

Newcastle's move towards Wissa comes after its failed attempts to sign Ekitike and its official withdrawal from the deal, as Frankfurt rejected an offer of €80 million, leading the club to shift its interest to alternative options, primarily Brentford's striker, with his fate also tied to the departure of teammate Bryan Mbeumo, who is wanted by Manchester United.
