Lionel Bontis, the head coach of Shanghai Shenhua in China, expressed his admiration for the significant transformation that the Saudi league has witnessed in recent years.

Bontis explained that he closely follows the Roshan League matches, especially with the participation of players he previously coached, most notably Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo and midfielder Danilo Pereira.

The Brazilian coach stated that having players he worked with in the past gives him a special feeling and creates a strong emotional connection between him and the Saudi league, which has become a focal point for the world.

He noted that what is happening in the Saudi league currently is not random, but rather the result of massive investments in infrastructure, the development of stadiums and training centers, and the attraction of global players.

Bontis considered that the league's development reflects the kingdom's ambitions, especially with its preparations to host the World Cup, which increases the competition's appeal and contributes to raising its technical level.

He called for the necessity of supporting youth teams within Saudi clubs by increasing playing opportunities for emerging players and providing a competitive environment that helps them grow properly.

He confirmed that this approach would help establish a unique Saudi football identity that reflects local football culture and produces talented generations capable of representing the kingdom at the highest levels.

Bontis reminisced about his past with Cristiano Ronaldo, confirming that he was his coach at Sporting Lisbon Academy when Ronaldo was between 13 and 17 years old.

He added, "I accompanied Cristiano in his early days and witnessed his remarkable determination, even at a young age. He was passionate and committed, and he taught me a lot despite being an emerging player."
