UEFA has announced the appointment of Swiss referee Sandro Schärer to officiate the UEFA Nations League final between Spain and Portugal, scheduled to take place on Sunday at the Allianz Arena.

Schärer, who is 36 years old, is considered one of the prominent referees in Europe recently, having officiated the 2023 UEFA Super Cup final between Real Madrid and Atalanta, as well as several matches in the Champions League and Europa League this season.

Schärer has a previous match with the Spanish national team, which was in March 2023 against Scotland, ending in a 2-0 loss for Spain, marking the only official defeat for coach Luis de la Fuente so far. He also officiated one match for Portugal in Euro 2024, which they lost 2-0 to Georgia.

Assisting in managing the final will be Stefan de Almeida and Jonas Erni, while Swiss referee Vidai San will be responsible for the video technology.
