Thursday 22-05-2025
The licensing manager of Zakho Club, Adel Sandi, announced that the club has officially received the Asian participation license for the 2025-2026 season, marking a historic achievement that is the first of its kind in the club's history.

Sandi stated in a statement to Shafaq News Agency that "the Asian Football Confederation has officially recognized the licensing of Zakho Club after it met the required conditions," explaining that the recognition came after ensuring the application of five main criteria that include: sports aspects, infrastructure, financial, legal, and administrative.

Sandi clarified that this step represents a qualitative leap in the history of Zakho Club and reflects the efforts made by the administration to develop the club on various levels, emphasizing that the license provides the team with the opportunity for continental representation and participation in Asian tournaments in the future.

This achievement comes at a time when Zakho is in third place in the Iraqi Premier League standings with 62 points after round 34, which enhances the club's hopes of experiencing a historic external challenge if the team continues its positive results.

It is worth noting that Zakho Club, founded in 1987, is one of the prominent sports clubs in northern Iraq, and its activities are not limited to football only; it also includes other sports such as basketball, volleyball, wrestling, weightlifting, swimming, and others, making it one of the multi-activity clubs in Iraq.
