Zakho president pledges comprehensive review and delivers a decisive message to fans
Zakho Sports Club president Jia Amin has broken his silence to deliver a direct and candid message to the club's fanbase and the residents of the city following a series of disappointing results and fluctuating performances from the Khabour Sons team during the Iraqi Premier League for the 2026-2027 season, leading to an early departure from the title race.
Reports have revealed that Zakho's management entered the current season with a historic transfer window, the largest and most expensive in the league's history, having successfully secured high-profile signings including Uzbek striker Sherzod Taimirov, last season's top scorer, and international defender Akam Hashim, alongside Como's star player Ali Jassim.
Digital data has shown that these significant investments have not translated into results on the pitch, as Zakho currently sits in 15th place with only 9 points after 10 rounds, trailing the league leaders by a full 15 points.
Jia Amin stated in official remarks through the club's media platforms: "I would like to address the team's results during the past period, which have become a source of genuine concern and dissatisfaction for our fans and supporters as they do not meet the aspirations of the management and the city's residents. Since taking responsibility, we have outlined a work plan and a comprehensive program aimed at elevating the team to be a constant competitor for titles and championships."
The club president added details about the financial and technical file: "The project has been formulated precisely and has received support from the relevant authorities. We have sought to bring in local and foreign elements with quality to make a difference. It is our right to aspire to see Zakho on the podiums of victory both locally and internationally."
He concluded by expressing his appreciation for the fans' support: "The team's supporters stood by us strongly, and we witnessed a warm welcome in the streets of Zakho that reflects the level of loyalty. However, implementing the project involved significant risks and financial challenges that the management bore in order to build a squad capable of achieving dreams."
The spokesperson spoke transparently about the current crisis: "We have made strenuous efforts and allocated significant budgets to ensure the success of the experience, and we hoped that this would reflect on the field, but the current results have disappointed expectations, and we understand the prevailing anger. It is now in our best interest to conduct a comprehensive evaluation and a thorough review to identify the reasons for the decline and adjust our course."
He concluded his words by emphasizing the responsibility: "We in the management take full responsibility and will continue to work to get the team back on the right track. The journey is still long and the opportunity for redemption exists, and we ask our fans to continue their support because their backing is the main driving force to overcome this setback."
According to exclusive sources for "Yalla Shoot", these statements come as Captain Talal Al-Balushi has taken over the coaching role for the team since August, following Laurent Banide. The management is striving to provide the highest levels of stability for the technical sector before it's too late.
This bold admission from the president of Zakho puts the ball in the court of the coaching staff and players to translate this financial and fan support into tangible results on the pitch in the upcoming rounds, amid great anticipation from the sporting community regarding the team's ability to regain its balance and return to the forefront of competition.
