Ancelotti Discusses Real Madrid's Performance After Clasico Loss
Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti appeared at a press conference after the 4-3 loss in El Clasico during round 35 of La Liga, held at Montjuïc.
The coach stated, "In a match at this level, we need to defend and attack well. We attacked brilliantly, looking for opportunities. We could have performed better in the first half; we made clear mistakes that cost us goals."
He added regarding Vinicius' substitution: "I made the change because he was suffering from an ankle sprain. He tried, but it bothered him, so I decided to take him out."
He continued, "Mbappé performed wonderfully; we had offensive opportunities, all of which were very clear. We attacked brilliantly behind the defenders, avoiding the offside trap. We scored three goals, and we were offside twice. Offensively, the team had a clear plan. We could have defended better in the first 30 minutes of the first half, but we must not forget that we missed five key defenders."
Regarding Rodrigo's absence: "He has recovered, but he wasn't feeling well. He wasn't at his best. I have no problem with him. He was suffering from a fever, and putting him on the field for five minutes when he doesn't feel well poses a risk: he could get injured."
He added, "Is this match your last Clasico? It is the last Clasico of this season; three matches remain, and we must strive to win them all."
On this season's Clasicos: "We needed to defend better. It was very clear in today's match that we defended poorly, and that was not due to weak defense. We wasted some opportunities, and they punished us."
Regarding the team's season: "Anyone can make the evaluation they want."
He concluded, "We had chances to equalize at 4-4 twice. It was a competitive, strong, and balanced match until the last moment. We didn't score the equalizer due to offside. I saw two great teams. There is no room for criticism regarding behavior and commitment. Things didn’t go well, but we competed until the end."
