Radical Changes to the King Abdulaziz Cup Starting Next Season
In a new step aimed at enhancing competitiveness, the Saudi Football Federation announced an important amendment to the King Abdulaziz Cup system, starting from the upcoming 2025-2026 season.
The new change stipulates that the Round of 32 matches will be held at the stadiums of clubs classified in the second tier, according to the proposal adopted by the Competitions Committee and officially approved by the federation.
Previously, an open draw determined the venues for this stage, but the new amendment gives a clear advantage to lower-tier clubs in hosting the matches.
The adopted classification includes 16 clubs in its first tier, which are the highest-ranked in the Roshan Saudi League, while the second tier includes two teams from the Roshan League and 14 clubs from the Yelo League.
As for the remaining rounds, starting from the Round of 16, their draw will be conducted in an open format, without changing the mechanism for determining the venues or hosting teams.
This amendment enhances the chances of second-tier teams to appear in front of their fans and opens the door for surprises in one of the most prominent tournaments in Saudi football.
