Saudi Sports Minister: No Negotiations with Mohamed Salah
Saudi Sports Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal confirmed that there were no negotiations with Egyptian Mohamed Salah, the star of Liverpool FC, to join the Saudi league.
Mohamed Salah's contract with Liverpool has been renewed, keeping the Egyptian pharaoh in the team until June 30, 2027.
In statements reported by ESPN, the sports minister said: "Mohamed Salah is a global star, an Arab and Muslim icon, and he fits the identity of the Saudi league."
He added: "The decision to renew with Liverpool was his personal choice, but linking his name to the Saudi league has been present since day one. There were no negotiations, but it is good that his name is associated with our championship."
He continued: "Today, whenever a player renews his contract or signs a new one, it is said that he is on his way to Saudi Arabia, and in reality, 90% of this news is not true."
He went on: "If you look at most of the recent transfers, you'll find they are with young players, and this is part of our strategy to develop the league and make it more competitive. I don't know if you have been following the Saudi league this season, but the competition among the top four clubs is amazing."
