Enrique: We Won't Defend in the Second Leg, Attack is Our Path to Qualification
Luis Enrique, the head coach of Paris Saint-Germain, expressed his great happiness with his team's performance following their 3-1 victory over Aston Villa in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, praising the collective spirit and the technical development of the team this season.
Enrique said: "I have never said that I do not want stars; I have always been looking for a real team. All coaches want a team filled with good players, and that is what we are building here at Paris Saint-Germain."
He added: "This season we changed our approach and had to adapt to what is available in our squad. We focused on developing the collective idea, along with enhancing the individual aspects of each player."
He continued: "We delivered a complete match from start to finish. We were the better side and controlled the course of the game. Although Aston Villa scored first, the result was not fair, and we continued to apply pressure until we successfully scored three times with great effectiveness."
Enrique praised the role of the players, both starters and substitutes, stating: "It doesn't matter who started the match; everyone contributed significantly. The team conveys positive energy, and we have become accustomed to overcoming difficult moments, as happened in the match against Manchester City, which has made us stronger and more confident."
Regarding the upcoming second leg at Villa Park, Enrique emphasized his attacking intentions, saying: "The best way to maintain our advantage is to attack. We will attack and play to win; this is our way, and we know no other. The players understand this well because they know me; we will not play conservatively or settle for defending."
