Michael Owen: Replacing Salah at Liverpool is a Nearly Impossible Task

Thursday 20-03-2025
Liverpool and England legend Michael Owen has confirmed that the departure of Egyptian star Mohamed Salah would be a significant loss for the Reds, noting that his exceptional scoring records make him a player that cannot be easily replaced.

Salah is contracted with Liverpool until June 2025, giving him the freedom to negotiate with any club for a free transfer at the end of the season, and the Egyptian star is a crucial element in leading the team at the top of the Premier League table this season, making him one of the standout players globally.

In his statements, Owen clarified that the club needs to strengthen its squad in the event of Salah's departure, especially with the possibility of Uruguayan Darwin Núñez leaving as well.

Owen said: "If Mohamed Salah leaves, Liverpool will definitely look for an attacking replacement, but there is no player capable of achieving his scoring records."

He added: "Several names have been circulated, and I see that Alexander Isak would be a fantastic signing if Liverpool can secure him, but Newcastle will not let him go easily."

He also expressed admiration for Bournemouth striker Antoine Semenyo, considering him to have outstanding attacking abilities, but emphasized that replacing Salah remains a complicated task.

Owen concluded his remarks by saying: "If Salah and Núñez leave and Isak and Semenyo are signed, it wouldn’t be a bad option, but the truth is that Liverpool wants to keep its best players, and Salah is the best, so we hope he doesn’t leave."
