Ancelotti: We Won't Play Again Under These Conditions, Proud of My Players
Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti appeared in a press conference after the 2-1 victory against Villarreal in the 28th round of La Liga.
The coach said: "This team has something special: character and commitment. This doesn't happen all the time, and I was angry with them. We must thank these players for the tremendous effort they have put in since January 3rd. Today is the last time we will play a match with less than 72 hours of rest; we requested the league to change the match schedule twice, but nothing happened."
He added: "The team held strong during difficult times: the beginning of the first half and the second half. After that, when we started to control the ball better, we looked for opportunities, and Mbappe's goals came in the first half. In the second half, we wanted to execute more counter-attacks."
He emphasized: "I am very proud of my players because it was a tough match due to everything that happened since the break and also because of the strength of the opponent, who plays very well. We physically held up, and in the second half, the team ended up exhausted, but that was natural; this victory says a lot about the team and the resources this team possesses."
He followed up: "We won't play again if we don't get 72 hours of rest."
He concluded: "It was important to win today. I will watch the Barcelona and Atletico Madrid match because it will be an entertaining game for the fans. Tomorrow, I will be a football fan."
