Al-Shabab Reveals Reason for Not Using Foreign Referees

Thursday 27-02-2025
Mohammed Al-Munajem, the president of Al-Shabab Club, revealed the reasons that led him not to request foreign referees for his team's matches during the current season, confirming that the decision is related to the quality of refereeing and financial costs.

Al-Munajem explained that his club did not request foreign referees, pointing out that other clubs are the ones that submit such requests. He added that the main reason behind this is the lack of guarantee that elite referees will arrive, making the use of a foreign referee of no real benefit.

The president of Al-Shabab affirmed that the club does not wish to spend money on referees who may not be better than Saudi referees. He indicated that the level of foreign referees being brought in is not necessarily higher than the local level, making the decision ineffective from a technical standpoint.

Al-Munajem expressed his agreement with Al-Hilal's management's viewpoint regarding the absence of elite referees in the Saudi league, which reinforces his position of not requesting foreign officiating crews for his team's matches.

The president of Al-Shabab did not hide his reservations about the work of the referees committee, clarifying that refereeing errors do not only affect his team but also extend to the teams facing Al-Shabab, which raises controversy about the referees' performance.

Despite these refereeing challenges, Al-Shabab occupies the sixth position in the Roshn Professional League standings with 36 points and seeks to continue its journey towards the advanced positions amid strong competition.
