Benfica wins the Portuguese League Cup for the eighth time in its history

Benfica was crowned champion of the Portuguese League Cup for the eighth time in its history, after winning the final match over Sporting Lisbon on penalties with a score of 7/6, following a 1/1 draw in regular time.


The match started with great enthusiasm, as Benfica took the lead first with a goal scored by Norwegian Andreas Schjelderup in the 29th minute, giving his team the advantage in the first half, but, before the end of the first half, Sporting Lisbon was able to equalize the score in the 43rd minute by Swedish Victor Jewkeres from a penalty kick, to restore hope to his team before the break.


After the end of regular time with a 1/1 draw, Penalty kicks were used to determine the champion of the competition. At this crucial moment, Benfica showed strong nerves, as none of their kicks were missed. On the other hand, Benfica's goalkeeper saved a penalty kick from Benfica. Francisco Trincao, giving his team the title after winning 7/6.


With this victory, Benfica strengthens its record in the Portuguese League Cup, as it achieves the title for the eighth time in its history, On the other hand, Sporting Club achieved four titles in this tournament, staying far behind the numbers of its traditional competitor.
