Former Wydad coach John Toshack spoke about the scenes of his departure from his position as coach of the Moroccan team.
The former Wydad coach said in his book "The Way of Toshack" that the former Moroccan national team coach Hervé Renard had a hand in his departure from coaching Wydad.
He continued: “My departure from Wydad was inevitable, even before the heavy defeat against Zamalek. The former national voter, Hervé Renard, was the one who kept nominating his compatriot Sébastien Dusaber for president.” Wydad's predecessor, Said Naciri, who was also a member of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation.
He continued: "I once again encountered matters that were far from my expertise and for which I do not bear responsibility. Shortly before our travel, I was told that the first goalkeeper, Zuhair Al-Aroubi, would not travel to Egypt because of his job in the military. I had to rely on the second goalkeeper, Muhammad Aqeed, who was not ready. On the night of the match, I saw fear in his eyes. He did not reassure the defenders, and we were defeated by four there. In a match where we made all kinds of mistakes.”
He added: “After dinner, the team doctor came to tell me the news of my dismissal. Before that day, I had separated from 16 teams, and I had never received the news of my dismissal in such a strange way.”
He noted: “I watched the return match in Rabat from the stands, which ended with Wydad defeating Zamalek 6-2, and honorably eliminating it from the semi-finals of the African Champions League. Then I left the next day for Spain and I was sad and proud of... Time, when I compared Wydad’s situation in the summer of 2014 when he arrived, and how it became two years later.
