Amorim: I Feel Sorry for Those People, and We Want to Offer Something Special
Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim made statements to the press following the victory over Olympique Lyon with a score of 5-4 after extra time in the second leg of the Europa League quarter-finals at Old Trafford.
The first leg at Lyon ended in a 2-2 draw.
The coach said: "A single moment can change a lot in the minds of the players. We need to focus intensely on the Europa League, and sometimes take risks with young players in the Premier League. The fans need to understand this; we must focus on the Europa League."
Regarding hopes of winning the tournament: "Everyone at this moment believes in the possibility of winning; we need some luck in light of the injuries."
On what he felt when Maguire scored the winning goal: "The atmosphere in the stadium was the best ever. Some people collect shirts and scarves, but I want to keep this sound; it’s the best sound in the world."
About United fans leaving early: "I feel sorry for those people who had to leave after we were trailing 4-2 due to the crowd; they will feel very sad."
He concluded: "We know we are performing poorly and deserve all this criticism, but we have enough time to deliver something special this season."
