Kompany: This is our goal, and I don't think about it much
Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany appeared in a press conference, to talk about tomorrow’s match against Benfica, in the fourth round of the Champions League.
The coach said: “ Qualifying directly to the round of 16? I do not want to think too much about this matter. We must win tomorrow. This is our only goal. I do not want to concern myself too much with the new system of the tournament. Our goal is to win tomorrow.
He added: “We have to give our best. We will play in the Champions League against a historic and ancient team. We scored 50 goals and won many matches. We have great confidence in our playing style. We will make some tactical adjustments as always.”
He continued: “Benfica is a dangerous team, especially inside the penalty area. They are at a high level, with Di Maria’s experience. They always find their way towards the goal. They have a good combination, they are a team.” Dangerous, but we have confidence that we will win the match.”
He stressed: “Maybe we must win 6 matches to guarantee direct qualification, while winning 3 matches may be enough. To qualify for the playoffs, our goal is to be in the top 8. We have now played twice away from home, so the situation is different against each team, so it is difficult to look at the table.”
And he continued “Do you want to return to the old tournament system? I can't tell you that until after the season. We have now had two difficult matches, as is the case for other clubs such as Paris Saint-Germain. This system adds more drama. We'll see that in the end. Champions League matches are great nights and also for the fans.”
He added: “You have a lot of wings? We have a lot of matches. This position in particular needs this number of players. Everyone gives so much and supports each other. They all know that we need every one of them.”
He concluded: “At some point you realize that you don’t sleep much in your bed when you play a lot away from home (laughs). There is a big difference between home and away matches, as we also achieved many victories away from home. Everyone knows how special the Allianz Arena is, we are playing in front of our fans, and that is always special.”
