The former Al-Ahly star demands that Mahrez be punished
Hussein Abdel Ghani, the former Saudi Al-Ahly star, called on Al-Ahly management to punish Riyad Mahrez, the Al-Raqi player, because of his recent statements about the Saudi Investment Fund.
Mahrez had openly attacked the investment fund, stressing that Al-Ahly did not receive sufficient support like other clubs.
Hussein Abdel Ghani said on the “Durina Ghair” program: “The Al-Ahly administration must hold Mahrez accountable because of his statements against the recruitment committee affiliated with the Saudi Investment Fund, as it is administrative work that is not his business.”
He added: “I don’t know why he talked about this aspect. He should be concerned with his work as a football player, and not interfere in administrative affairs, because in this way he talked about his teammates, which has an adverse effect on Al-Ahly.”
He continued: “When you say we need players, this means that you want to change one or two of your colleagues, and these are strange and wrong statements.”
He continued: “If Riyad’s speech was based on a green light from the administration, then he should not have made these statements in front of the media, because the method was bad.”
He concluded his speech: “I expect that Mahrez’s talk will affect the players in Al-Ahly, and they will have a strong reaction.”
