Ten Hag: Fernandes does not deserve to be sent off, and this is what we have to do

Manchester United coach Erik Ten Hag appeared in press statements after the 3-0 loss to Tottenham in the sixth round of the English Premier League.

The coach said: “Reception A goal after two or three minutes is a blow to our belief. It is completely unnecessary to concede a goal like this, where the opposition center back passes the ball to the whole team on the right side and then the winger shoots the same mistake we made in midweek against Twente, it must be stopped in the first moment.”

He added: “From that moment we were nervous because of the ball and we could not find triangles or substitutions. We had some good moments "But from that moment we could not gain a foothold. We can do better than that. Even after such a mistake on our part, we must remain calm."

He stressed: “We had opportunities and moments to return to the match, with Joshua Zirkzee and Alejandro Garnacho when we had 11 players, and then after the red card we also had important moments.”

He noted: “We had our chances before the end of the first half, and in the second half with 10 players we also had chances. Bruno Fernandes’ expulsion had a clear impact on the match. But I don't think he deserved a red card."

He concluded:"We have to deal with this matter and show flexibility. This is not good enough. We have to accept this and improve. We are focused on the next match and doing things better than we did today.”
