The Portuguese Domingos Suarez, CEO of Al-Ittihad Club, revealed the reason for the switch from the deal with the Brazilian Henderson Galeino, the Porto striker, to the contract with the Dutchman Steven Bergwijn, the Ajax Amsterdam winger, on the last day of the summer transfer period.

Suarez said that Al-Ittihad Club entered into negotiations with Porto regarding Galeño in conjunction with Ajax’s negotiations to include Bergwijn.

Suarez indicated that the most suitable option was Bergwijn, and when he was signed, further negotiations regarding Galeño, the Porto player, stopped.

He added: “We had goals in the market.” We negotiated with the clubs that owned our required deal contracts, and Galeno was within our circle of interests, and I spoke with Porto, but we saw that Bergwijn is considered the model who can succeed in Saudi Arabia.”

He explained. “In the last days of the transfer market, a lot happens, and what happened was normal, and our options are always open to everything, and we must be flexible to finalize deals.”
