Uncertainty surrounds the future of Tunisian Ali Maaloul, Al-Ahly's left back, as he has been away from the field since his injury in the first leg of the African Champions League final, last May.

Maaloul will stay away from the matches after sustaining a partial tear in his Achilles tendon during the Al-Ahly and Esperance match in Tunisia, in the first leg of the African Champions League final.

Maaloul faces an unknown fate with Al-Ahly, especially after he was not registered on the team’s local or African roster because he is still in the qualification stage.

Media reports indicate that the Al-Ahmar management is moving to re-register Maaloul in the team’s roster during next January’s transfer, after renewing his contract for one season in appreciation of his career in the red shirt, but recently a rumor has emerged about the club thinking about terminating the contract with the player.

The survival of Tunisian Maaloul with Al-Ahly has become questionable, especially with the possibility of the club contracting a new foreign player next January, to reserve the fifth place on the team’s list of foreigners.
