Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo won the award for the best scorer in the history of the Champions League, during the ceremony held in the French city of Monaco, on the sidelines of the Champions League draw.
UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin said: “First, when we talk about Cristiano Ronaldo we talk about dedication, success and work. Scoring 140 goals in the Champions League is exceptional. You cannot achieve better than this.”
He added: “When we talk about the Champions League, the Euros or football, we talk about Cristiano Ronaldo. He deserves this award because of his wonderful career.”
He concluded: “I have a problem with Cristiano (laughs). Unfortunately, Ronaldo does not play in the best club competition in the world (the Champions League), but he is not the only one who is getting older. I hope he comes back here, why not.”
