Belgium moves to compete with Morocco for Adnan Ouijed after initial call-up
The Belgian Football Union has entered the race to attract Adnan Ouibed, a player for Standard Liège, after his name was included in the preliminary list for the Morocco national team. This comes amid a struggle between the two parties to benefit from the services of the player who holds both Moroccan and Belgian nationalities.
The Belgian newspaper "Le Soir" reported that the local federation has reached out to the player, who is 23 years old, after his name was included in the preliminary list for the "Atlas Lions", in an effort to persuade him to represent Belgium and avoid losing another talent with dual nationality.
Abid has delivered impressive individual performances this season, having scored four goals and provided four assists in ten matches with Standard Liège, despite his team's fluctuating results.
The player began his career at KRC Genk's academy before moving to Patro Eisden and then joining Standard Liège, where he caught attention with his offensive contributions.
Obaid was born in the Belgian city of Verviers and has previously represented the youth teams of the Belgian national teams, but he has not worn their shirt for five years. He has also never participated with the senior national team, leaving his international future open to several possibilities.
