Lewandowski: Current generation will struggle with this, I back Yamal for the Ballon d'Or
Polish striker Robert Lewandowski has spoken about the challenges that young players face in modern football, stating that maintaining peak performance for extended periods will become more difficult compared to what his generation experienced, due to the rapid pace of player development and increasing physical pressures.
Robert Lewandowski stated in comments reported by The Athletic: "In the future, it will be impossible to stay at the top for as long as we did. Today, everything is moving much faster for young players; they reach the highest level at a very early age compared to our generation."
The Polish forward added: "It will be harder for them to stay there for a long time, not because of their mentality, but because of physical exhaustion. Even if they are exceptional players, they are still human. And when you get everything too early, you might end up losing some of that hunger that keeps you at the top."
In another context, Robert Lewandowski announced his support for the Spanish Lamine Yamal to win the Ballon d'Or, saying: "Of course, I support Lamine to win the Ballon d'Or, as he is an amazing player, especially considering his age."
Robert Lewandowski has highlighted the difference in competition for the award today compared to the past, stating: "It is different today. In the past, there were two or three very prominent candidates, as was the case during the era of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi."
He concluded his statements by saying: "Now, you can find ten players, each with arguments explaining why they could win the Ballon d'Or."
